Using Liuyang Fireworks to Illuminate China’s Cultural Confidence | Chairman Zhong Ziqi Visits Hunan University to Share the Story of “The Light of Intangible Cultural Heritage”
Author:
On the morning of November 19, 2025, at the invitation of Hunan University, Zhong Ziqi—representative inheritor of the national-level intangible cultural heritage project (Luyang Fireworks Manufacturing Technique), recipient of the title “Most Beautiful Veteran” nationwide, and Chairman of Dongxin Fireworks Group—stepped onto the podium for the 21st session of Hunan University’s Lecture Series on Current Affairs and Policy.
As a high-end humanities platform meticulously crafted by Hunan University, this lecture series has always been committed to bringing together renowned scholars and experts from various fields, helping students “understand China and gain insight into the world” through in-depth dialogues. This time, the university specifically invited Chairman Zhong Ziqi—known as both a guardian of intangible cultural heritage in traditional industries and a practitioner of real-world enterprise—to take the stage. The university’s hope is that he will open up for students a unique window of understanding—one that goes beyond grand theoretical narratives and allows them to experience the profound power rooted in craftsmanship and practical action.

Staying true to one’s duty throughout life—this is the essence of a soldier.
Let traditional skills shine with the brilliance of our times.
For over four decades, Chairman Zhong Ziqi has seamlessly blended craftsmanship and the spirit of the military into the fireworks industry. From the military camp to the corporate world, he has led his team—with the resilience and focus characteristic of a soldier—to overcome technical challenges and successfully develop an independently researched and developed music-fired ignition system, thereby breaking the foreign monopoly. From the Beijing Olympic Games to the Beijing Winter Olympics, as the world’s only “Double-Olympic” fireworks company, Dongxin Fireworks has enabled traditional craftsmanship to shine brilliantly on the international stage, vividly illustrating Zhong Ziqi’s extraordinary journey—from inheritor of intangible cultural heritage to industry leader.

Passing on the flame
Light up your youthful dreams with cultural confidence.
This lecture is not only a vivid practice of bringing intangible cultural heritage into campuses, but also a profound dialogue on cultural confidence—a deeply meaningful teaching experience that takes practitioners as our teachers. Drawing on his own journey of struggle, Zhong Ziqi helped young students grasp the profound meanings of “taking root” and “blossoming.”
He showed his classmates that cultural confidence is by no means a castle in the air—it stems from relentless refinement of one’s own skills, from a lifelong commitment to the spirit of integrity, and even more so from the conscious sense of responsibility of integrating personal efforts into the surging currents of our times. He encouraged students to deeply understand China’s outstanding traditional culture and lay a solid foundation for their lives; to dare to innovate and break new ground, forging paths that no one has ever taken before; and above all, to harbor lofty aspirations to serve society. These simple yet profound teachings represent the most precious spiritual legacy that the older generation of industrialists has left to the younger generation.

Under the leadership of Chairman Zhong Ziqi, the people of Dongxin have always upheld the principle of "dedication to art and sincerity in heart." Each fireworks display tells a Chinese story; each technological breakthrough showcases Chinese wisdom. We firmly believe that when traditional pyrotechnic skills are combined with the cultural confidence of our times, they will illuminate the path forward for more young people, ensuring that every dream blossoms brilliantly like fireworks.
